Anne of Green Gables is a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. Written for all ages, it has been considered a children's novel since the mid-twentieth century. It recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in Prince Edward Island. The novel recounts how Anne makes her way with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Since publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into 20 languages. Numerous sequels were written by Montgomery, and since her death, another sequel has been published, as well as an authorized prequel. The original book is taught to students around the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It has been adapted as film, made-for-television movies, and animated and live-action television series. Anne Shirley was played by Megan Follows in the 1985 Canadian produced movie. Plays and musicals have also been created, with productions annually in Canada since 1964 of the first musical production, which has toured in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Whiskey and Suicide deals with self actualization, mid-life crisis, identity in modern urban India. The protagonists range from people migrating from cities to small towns for peace of mind to a girl who kills her father after not being able to live with the pain of his alcoholism. It empathizes with familiar characters stuck in a routine, wanting to make a substantial change to their life. The protagonists reminisce the memories of a cheery past, mourn the death of a friend and wonder about self actualization. Modern India is a complex place with the variety of demographics ranging from the multi billionaires to people who are not able to get a day's meal. The financial liberalization and the IT revolution has created a middle class that is ambitious both in economic aims and spiritual aims. Whiskey and Suicide is empathetic without being condescending.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Poetry For Positive Spirit<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

There are times when one wants to be alone, or in the company of the chosen few. Poetry is the perfect companion of that person who wants his or her spirit to be lifted up. Soul stirring poetry is rare and it is a great companion of a sensitive soul. A great poet or poetess brings out a worldly experience in such a positive manner that the reader get submerged in that blissful world that poet creates.
